Boyz n the hood is a very interesting film to watch if you're interested in films that go over issues of neighborhoods and social problems as well as inspirational films. However, this movie had something very important that was more important than the story itself and yes I'm talking about the camera. The camera sometimes make us feel as if we are a part of the movie and if we are actually with the characters. The camera also gives us more information than the characters in the movie really know of. The camera can change the mood of the whole setting as well.

As the movie is beginning, one of the opening scenes in the movie is that the group of kids are discussion the recent of events that occurred. The camera focuses on the three kids and the mother is in the background looking down at the kids. Trey, witch is the main character in the film is explaining what really happen while the two brothers Doughboy and Ricky are listening and asking questions. The camera is at a medium shot focusing on the three boys. The shot captures the facial expressions of the three boys and the mother is in the background closing the door.
In this next scene, the three friends picked up one of their other friends and went to go see a dead body that was said to be nearby. Once the kids discover the dead body, they all stay looking at it making comments and trying to figure out why the body is still there and why does nobody care. Then, this group of guys come up to the kids to start trouble with them. The camera is focused on a establishing shot to show the viewer what is about to happen and where they are at. The shot shows the guys walking up to the kids but the kids still do not know of them coming up from behind them because they are still focused on the dead body.
The next scene shows Trey and Ricky as adults still close together as friends and shows a women in the background looking at their direction. I like how this shot is because the girl is the main subject of the conversation that Ricky and Trey are having. The camera is at a medium shot focusing on both Ricky and Trey but has Brandi blurred out in the background looking at them. The shot makes it real obvious that the conversation is about the girl and keeps everything in one still shot and focused in one scene. This explains everything that is happening to the viewer of the film and can see everything happen at first hand along with the characters.
So, the camera work in this movie was a very important factor into developing this film and putting it together because it created different moods throughout the movie and focused on important moments as well as created touchy moments as well as very important scenes that had to be recorded just right for it to reach to the viewer and create scenes to reach to the watcher.
