Universal studios presents a fairly new film called “ 2 guns”. This movie is an action packed thriller that I found to be somewhat funny. It is not the typical movie about a battle between “Good Guy’s and Bad Guy’s”, this movie shows how a drug cartel leader, cops, DEA, CIA, and the Navy all trade on each other and go after one common goal that rains from the sky at the end of the movie. 2 Guns has many surprises throughout the storyline that makes it unique and not at all what you expected.
The main focus of the film revolved around money, a big 43.2 million dollars. Stig (a naval officer) and Bobby (a DEA agent) are the main characters to this film, they have relationship that only exist because of the money. They went from wanting to kill each other to teaming up to kill everyone else that wants the money. This wasn’t an easy task they had because they have to go through the CIA who are the real owners of the money. Earl (a CIA agent) went around torturing everyone that could be involved until he gets an answer of where the money could be. He started will the bank manager and went through everyone until he was lead to Bobby. Earl framed Bobby for the murder of his boss, causing him to became a wanted man. The CIA told him that they will clear his name once they get back the money. Deb is another character in this story, she plays the role of bobby’s “girlfriend” they care about each other but when Deb find out that she could get half the 43.2 million she trade on both Bobby and Stig by calling the navy and telling them where Stig and Bobby are located.
You may be think that this sounds like the typical action movie they you’ve seen numerous times. The acting incorporated into this action packed film was above average. Mark Wahlberg had the role of Stig, a funny but yet rugged person. Wahlberg did a good job during all of the actions scene which was to be expected, he surprise me on how well he was able to act out the funny scene while keeping a rugged and serious demeanor. He didn’t become overly dramatic, he did a perfect job of making the scene appear realistic. Denzel Washington played the role of Bobby, a goofy, charming, undercover cop. Denzel shocked me during this movie because I expected more from him. Ironically the scene where I think Washington could of did better were the action scenes. His comedy scene were not as good as Wahlberg’s, I felt like he wasn’t as believable. The difference between these two actors is that mark was more sincere and more legit.
There was nice camera work throughout the film, the action scene were highlighted with low angle, pan, and long shots. The best thing about the movie is that it wasn’t any unnecessary action scene. Overall if I had to rate this film I would give it a 7 out of 10, it is a solid film.
